America's Rebirth

When looking at the North Carolina flag, you may have noticed two gold scrolls inscribed with dates above and below the N★C. The top date is May 20, 1775, which represents the signing of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. The signing of this document marked the birth of liberty on this continent, and paved the way for the better-known declaration signed in Philadelphia 411 days later.

We stand now at the precipice of 250 years since its signing, and this is an anniversary of great prophetic significance. Milestones are always important, and a quarter of a millennium is certainly impressive. However, this marks the fifth jubilee of freedom on this continent, and that carries tremendous spiritual importance. While I will not pretend to completely understand the magnitude of this occasion, I will share what God has shown me concerning it.

First, you should know that our year 2025 mostly coincides with the Hebrew year 5785. Each of these numbers is significant in its own right. The Hebrew year, calculated since Creation, signifies grace, perfection, and new beginnings. It is a year associated with the king-priest anointing, rebirth, reformation, and repositioning. Certainly, this applies well to the flurry of activities happening at the federal level since Trump’s re-inauguration, but I believe there’s a deeper underlying spiritual significance at work here.

The year 5785 begins and ends with a 5, a number which represents God’s grace. Interestingly, the year 2025, calculated roughly since Jesus’ arrival, ends with a 25, the square of the number 5, which is a declaration of “grace upon grace.” We see grace in the jubilee years, which are 50, a multiple of 5. This 250th anniversary of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence happens at the intersection of all three of these graces. It is the grace jubilee, happening in our year of grace upon grace.

Second, you should know that God has not only a purpose for you, but also for your nation. Acts 17:26 says, “And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,” He determined the preappointed times and boundaries of each nation’s dwellings.

The word “nation” here refers to a people group, not a political entity, but God has taken immigrants from all over the world and formed a new American people group. Millions of Americans who have no singular people group outside of America. Much like He had to move people around to get the Israelites into the Promised Land, He also had to move people around to establish this nation. Our nation includes the descendents of Africans, Asians, Europeans, and Natives. Your ancestors very likely came here from somewhere else, and it was all part of God’s plan.

God knew where the United States of America would exist. He started it at Roanoke, North Carolina; Jamestown, Virginia; and Plymouth, Massachusetts; but that was not his ultimate plan. God had prepared a place for us to occupy, rule, and reign, and we were living as renters in the corner of someone else’s kitchen. His plan was for us to take the land, and over the next few centuries, we did. We now enjoy the physical security afforded by two oceans, and the bountiful agricultural and mineral wealth that lies between them.

God determined who would be America, what land they would occupy, and which of His purposes they would fulfill. We have been blessed to see God’s plan for the United States of America unfold over the past several centuries. The United States has promoted human flourishing, transforming the world through our altruism, creativity, financial prosperity, and military dominance, and made an eternal impact through our evangelism and missions work all over the globe. God elevated us to become a global superpower, and we have stewarded that responsibility to alleviate human suffering, unwaveringly support Israel, and advance the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

God has also pre-ordained America’s times, from beginning to end. President Ronald Reagan often referred to America as a “shining city on a hill,” but I suspect that remains only partially fulfilled. I believe our nation’s best days are yet to come, but we believers play a vital role in keeping America on track in the meantime. We accomplish this through our prayers, our collective obedience, and acting upon the knowledge that “freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” There is a prophecy about the rebirth of America, and we are in the midst of it right now. Things are happening all around us that point to God’s hand at work in our country.

About a year ago, I wrote about the potential for God’s judgment on America following the April 8, 2024 eclipse, but then something surprising happened. There were glimmers of repentance. May 18th, 2024 would have been “judgment day,” the 40th day after the eclipse. It was the day when Israel experienced national judgment, the day the Philistines captured the ark of the covenant, the day the prophet Eli and both of his sons died, and the day Eli’s grandson, Ichabod (whose name means “the glory has departed”) was born. Interestingly, on this day when I expected the potential for national judgment, a visitor named Shekinah entered the house of God while I was worshipping. Her name means “the majestic presence or manifestation of God which has descended to "dwell" among men.” Instead of “the glory has departed,” I encountered “the glory dwells.”

So where does that leave us? American freedom was birthed in Charlotte 250 years ago, and we celebrate that legacy today. However, this is more than any mere anniversary. I believe this is a kairos moment, for those who can discern it. I believe that May 20, 2025, marks the kairos moment of the spiritual rebirth of the United States of America. This is a time of grace upon grace upon grace, a time when God is rebirthing America, a time of reformation and repositioning, a time of perfection, a time of new beginnings, a time associated with the king-priest anointing, and a time when His glory dwells.

I live, work, and worship in what was Mecklenburg County back in 1775, and so I am blessed to be able to celebrate this momentous occasion with loved ones right where it all began. But this is not just a day of local importance; this is God’s day throughout the United States of America. So, wherever you are, take a moment to thank God for His protection, providence, and faithful hand upon us, and to implore His continued blessings upon this glorious land of liberty. May God continue to richly bless America!
