Above the Fray & Beneath the Surface

Matt Garris
Matt is a Christian, husband, father, and patriot from Charlotte, NC. A gifted teacher and writer, Matt enjoys breaking complex ideas into bite-sized concepts and communicating them in a memorable and thought-provoking manner.
Matt served seven years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps and is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following his honorable discharge, Matt began a civilian career which has provided him with significant experience across a wide range of fields, including education, healthcare, insurance, logistics, management, performing arts, retail, and security. Despite the diversity of his professional experiences, Matt writes primarily on issues related to Christianity, culture, and politics. He has also ghostwritten three published books and edited numerous smaller projects in addition to his own creative work.
Matt has a passion for expanding God's kingdom by proclaiming Gospel truth with authority and power. God has given Matt the vision to start a national network of Christian alternative schools. This network will serve young men who are part of the "school-to-prison pipeline." Through this network, generations of men who would otherwise spend their lives in prison will become Godly husbands, fathers, and contributing members of society. Instead of serving time behind bars, they will serve their fellow citizens as employees, entrepreneurs, innovators, inventors, and organizational leaders who will make a positive impact in the world around them. Matt is thrilled to be able to spearhead this endeavor!
Matt holds degrees in music education, executive leadership, and strategic leadership. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in education with a concentration in organizational leadership. He and his wife have been married for over 18 years and have four daughters, ages 16, 12, 10, and 7. They are active in their church and community.
